The Ministry of Education honoured Earnest J. Bowe for his contributions to the development of The Bahamas during a renaming ceremony for the Mastic Point Primary School, now the Rozelda M. Woodside Primary School in Mastic Point, North Andros. Mr. Bowe is the first principal of Mastic Point Primary School, the first school built in Mastic Point. He has served in various capacities in the public service.
The Ministry of Education (MOE), through its Department of Education (DOE), launched its first annual Public School Registration Drive on March 3, 2020. The launch was a part of a continuing effort to minimize the delays and challenges associated with the registration process. Registration for the upcoming school year commenced March 2nd 2020, and will end on June 30th, 2020; taking place between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. During a press conference held at the Ministry of Education, Director of Education Marcellus Taylor along with other Education officials announced the details surrounding the process of registration for the 2020/2021 school year. Mr. Taylor noted that for the first time, registration of all public school students is standardized; and is taking place within a stipulated timeline.
High school students enrolled in Hospitality and Tourism studies are learning this week that in addition to the cruise ship and mega resort industries there are career options in Airbnb. The Ministry of Education in partnership with the Bahamas Hotel Tourism Association and Airbnb launched a tourism education initiative at C. C. Sweeting High School, Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Representatives from the various agencies are visiting Anatol Rodgers High School, C. V. Bethel High School and Doris Johnson High School during the period March 3 to March 6 to enlighten students about the diverse opportunities in the tourism sector.
Training students to become good candidates for positions in the hospitality industry, coaching students how to secure internship and work experience, exposing Generation Z to the hospitality industry, and teaching Math for Night Auditing in the Hotel Industry are among the lessons covered at the Family and Consumer Science Education Unit Spring Professional Development Workshops Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at C.C. Sweeting Senior High School.
