President of the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union, Wesley Ferguson is raising concerns about Atlantis interfering with the operations of taxi drivers.
Ferguson told ZNS News, “Atlantis, in my opinion, is one of the biggest bullies in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas but the taxi union will not sit by and allow Atlantis to take advantage of taxi drivers. This is a very disrespectful move because Atlantis just unilaterally, without any dialogue with the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union, made a decision to ban taxi drivers from dropping off at the Coral Towers. Now for more than twenty years, taxi drivers enjoyed that luxury of doing tours that included Atlantis and drop of passengers that contributed to the success of Atlantis. They spend heavily in the casinos and in the restaurants and in other areas that they’re permitted to go to. But Atlantis took the decision, with no consultation, no warning to taxi drivers, and disrespected them.”
The Union President suggested that Atlantis rescind its decision and meet with the union to discuss the issue. He has also asked for the intervention of the ministers responsible for transport and tourism.
Atlantis declined to comment in the issue.
