For Immediate Release
24 June 2026
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tyson K. McKenzie as Consul General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to Miami, Florida, with responsibility for leading the work of the Consulate General in advancing the interests of The Bahamas and supporting Bahamian nationals throughout the Consulate’s jurisdiction, effective 1 July 2026.
Mr. McKenzie brings a wealth of experience to this important role, having served for more than a decade in the Bahamian Foreign Service. Prior to this appointment, he served as Deputy Consul General and Head of Chancery at the Consulate General of The Bahamas in Atlanta, Georgia, where he oversaw administrative operations and acted as Officer-in-Charge in the absence of the Consul General. He also served at the Embassy of The Bahamas in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he headed the Consular Annex, periodically served as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., and played a significant role in bilateral relations, crisis management, and consular protection. Mr. McKenzie also held key positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Financial Services and Immigration, and the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development, contributing to policy development and administration in the areas of migration, citizenship, gender affairs, child protection, and social development.
Among his responsibilities as Consul General are overseeing the Consulate’s consular, political, economic, cultural, and diaspora engagement functions; managing staff operations; maintaining strategic relationships with local, state, and federal authorities; promoting Bahamian interests; assisting nationals in distress; strengthening institutional partnerships; and fostering engagement with government agencies, academia, civil society organizations, the private sector, and the diplomatic community.
Mr. McKenzie’s leadership is guided by five strategic priorities: Healthcare and Medical Diplomacy; Education and Youth Development; Economic Empowerment and Investment Promotion; Social Justice and Global Advocacy; and Digital Transformation and Modern Consular Services. Through these pillars, he seeks to strengthen partnerships, expand opportunities for Bahamians, promote investment, advocate for the welfare of Bahamian nationals abroad, and modernize consular services through innovation and technology.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its congratulations to Mr. McKenzie on his appointment and wishes him every success as he continues to serve The Bahamas with distinction.
