During her presentation on the 2025-2026 budget Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey revealed that the $1 million in maintenance fees owed by the owners of the International Bazaar property has been settled.
She said, “we began the process of the acquisition of the Bazaar and Royal Oasis which, of course, has its long history of multiple owners and city management related issues. But we knew that this project could be the only way to kill two birds with one stone, create something special and revitalize the area. What we are embarking on is a game changer.”
The government signed a $1.86 million project preparation agreement with the Africa Export Import Bank in July 2024 for the Afro-Caribbean Marketplace to be constructed on the site of the old International Bazaar. Moxey said the Marketplace will “enhance The Bahamas strategic position in global maritime networks, foster economic growth, create jobs and strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean nations.”
“The establishment of the Afro-Caribbean Marketplace and Logistics Center on Grand Bahama will serve as a catalyst for regional economic integration, cultural promotion, infrastructural development and sustainable growth benefiting, again, not just Grand Bahama but the entire Bahamas,” she said.
