A 15 year old male was shot and killed on First Street in Coconut Grove on Monday morning.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings was on the scene where she provided members of the press with details of the incident. She said, “the victim was along with an older sibling when a small gray Japanese vehicle pulled along side them. A male emerged with a high powered weapon, firing multiple gunshots and striking the 15 year old teen. His older sibling was unharmed in the incident and was able to make good his escape.”
Skippings also appealed to the public for information. “You may have seen a small Japanese vehicle traveling north on First Street onto Palm Tree Avenue we’re asking you to kindly reach out to the offices of the Criminal Investigations Department provide us with the necessary information so that we can bring this matter to a close within a relatively short period of time. It is unacceptable we have a 15 year old teen who has not even yet lived. Teen who was probably just about to make his way ready to go to school.”
Also on the scene was Superintendent Keith Ferguson of the Grove Police Station. He said, “in this community foot patrols, mobile patrols. We also are communicating with the residents of the community. We are a part of this community. Something like this should never happen in this country. We also are doing community events actually tomorrow we are having a march and a walk through prayer session through the Grove area, Englerston area.”
This latest incident takes the murder count to 26 since the start of the year.
