Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg was on hand to congratulate the newest cohort of the Fresh Start Program during their graduation ceremony at the Foster B. Pestaina Centre on June 6, 2025.
The program has been a beacon of hope, a path forward for young people striving for a brighter, more successful future, since inception.
“It provides a vital post-secondary bridge, equipping our youth with essential soft skills, technical training and real-world work experience. This preparation not only empowers them for the workforce, but also for life itself,” he said.
Minister Bowleg added that it was indeed a time of celebration for the 30 graduates, who underwent 16 weeks of training and development, as they are young leaders and our future nation builders.
“This year’s participants have embarked on a journey of mentorship and career development, designed to develop them and tap into their potential and realize the greatness that already exists within them,” the minister said.
The certifications included Basic Carpentry and Electrical, Introduction to Computers and Cybersecurity, and Fundamentals of Retail Services.
Minister Bowleg told the Class of 2025 that they have achieved commendable milestones as a result of the training and certification they have received; and the celebration was not just for their certifications, but also for their determination, growth and resilience.
“You have shown us what it means to persevere, push forward and rise above challenges,” he added.
“Let this be your guiding light — whether you are stepping into a job, continuing with your education or building your own business. Embrace the journey with courage. Own your story, be bold, move forward with purpose.”
Guest speaker Pastor Kyle Maycock, of Freeport Bible Church, told the Class of 2025 to know and protect their value, and warned them that the benefits of the 16 weeks they endured in the program could be taken away with one bad decision.
