Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Chester Cooper traveled to Children’s Bay Cay, Exuma on Friday where a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Amancaya Resort development.
During his remarks Mr. Davis said, “this $260 million investment will span across Children’s Bay Cay, Williams Cay and Madam Daus Cay. It will bring to live a 36 pavilion hotel along site a collection of fully serviced residences supported by amenities including a marina, a beach club, a spa and exceptional dining.”
The Hon. Chester Cooper, who also serves as Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, told those in attendance the development represents environmentally conscious stewardship. He said, “it is a project aligned with global sustainability standards incorporating renewable energy solutions and responsible resource management and committed to reserving the very beauty that makes Exuma so very special.”
According to ADH Ltd. Managing Director, Olivier Lordonnois the groundbreaking is a continuation of a nearly 10 year old vision and Amancaya is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He said, “from solar energy integration to responsible resource management. Our intention is to protect and preserve the natural environment that makes Exuma so exceptional and this for generations to come.”
The resort is set to provide 550 jobs during the construction phase and operation. ADH Ltd. Project Manager spoke of the community, “to date the project has contributed over $450,000 to community initiatives across the island. This year, we’re committing $1 million to improve the water infrastructure in Exuma. We are also delivering a police station and medical clinic for the community of Barre Terre.’
The project is expected to be completed in four years.
