Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation and Member of Parliament of Central and South Abaco, the Hon. John Pinder spoke in the House Of Assembly on the 2023-2024 Mid Year Budget on Monday.
In his contribution, Pinder updated Parliament on the progress being made on the island of Abaco post Hurricane Dorian including the demolition of unregulated communities. He said, “we love all nations. We enjoy when they come and integrate and assimilate in our culture and grow our nation but we must follow the law. We cannot have people coming in and building unpermitted with no sanitation, tainting our water supply and doing as they please. Abaco is a growing economy, even the small jobs are paid well. We make sure that money is put into our economy properly and everybody is permitted and regulated by the standards of our Bahamian law.”
The Abaco Member of Parliament also spoke about construction of the Abaco shelter. “In Abaco and The Bahamas were fixing things properly, not just patching things, we’re fixing them for the future generations. That is on schedule to be completed in November but I’ve been assured that if we have a hurricane this season it’ll be complete enough to stand up to the hurricane and be a shelter for those must in need.”
Pinder highlighted a recent college fair held on the island and informed that the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) Abaco campus is under construction.
