The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of The Bahamas is a statutory body responsible for receiving, obtaining, analyzing, and disseminating information that relate, or may relate, to proceeds of crime or other related financial crime.
The Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network for the Caribbean (ARIN-CARIB) is a network of law enforcement and judicial practitioners in the field of asset tracing, freezing, seizure and confiscation. Each member state is represented by a law enforcement officer and a judicial expert (prosecutor, investigating judge, etc. depending on the legal system). FIU Bahamas’ Deputy Director, Basil Collie, and Assistant Legal & Compliance Officer, Kareem Higgins, represented the unit at the ARIN-CARIB 2026 Annual General Meeting & Steering Group Meeting. Deputy Collie and Mr. Higgins were accompanied by officers from the Office of the Attorney General, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and the Financial Crimes Investigation Branch. The sessions were held during July 14th-15th, 2026 at Guyana Marriott, Georgetown, Guyana. During this meeting, The Bahamas was elected as a member of the ARIN-CARIB Steering Group for 2027. This new partnership will provide the FIU with additional resources to successfully combat financial terrorism and additional fraudulent activities.
FIU Bahamas serves as the agency that is responsible for receiving, analyzing, obtaining, and disseminating information which relates to, or may relate to, the following laws: the Proceeds of Crime Act, the Financial Transactions Reporting Act, the Anti-Terrorism Act, and any other Act which is relevant to this information from any foreign financial intelligence unit.
