President of the Bahamas AIDS Foundation, Lady Camille Barnett, praised health officials for their efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“The Ministry of Health has done an incredible job. They provide, they have been providing, free HIV/AIDS medication to patients from the 1990s. Not many countries can say that, especially developing countries can say that. The rate of infection has gone down. The number of new cases has gone down. The deaths as a result of AIDS related causes has gone down. So we’ve made an awful lot of improvement but unfortunately COVID came along and that COVID 19 pandemic really hit us hard. In terms of the foundation it meant we couldn’t host our ball.”
Lady Barnett also highlighted the issues with food insecurity saying that her organization provides supplementary groceries to those who need it.
