The body of a man was found shot to death by police officers patrolling on Munnings Road on Monday night. Officers also discovered a vehicle engulfed in flames near the scene.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Rolle provided details of the incident to reporters at the scene. He said, “so as they were proceeding in the area of that vehicle to investigate they were able to come across another vehicle that was just west of that vehicle that was engulfed in flames and their attention was drawn to a dark man that was lying face down on the ground next to a four door dark colored vehicle.”
The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to members of the public for information about the incident. “We are still in the initial stage of this investigation so we are appealing to anyone who may have been traversing this area whether by vehicle, whether by feet or persons who just live in this nearby area who may have heard something that they could provide this information that will assist us in advancing this investigation,” Rolle said.
The victim has been unofficially identified as alleged gang leader Duran ‘Monster’ Neely. Crime Consultant, Dr. Carlos Reid said, “I believe that everybody on the street knows that name. He’s built a name for himself and I believe that this serves as a wake up to a lot of persons who believe that they are invincible. This is not the first named person that has been cut down on our streets. You look at persons like ‘Irie’, he got cut down. You look at John Wick. There’s been a lot of persons that had name that get cut down on our streets.”
Dr. Reid expressed condolences to the family of the victim and said he believes that incident is the result of a war on the streets that has been brewing for a long time. He also commended Commissioner of Police, Shanta Knowles and the Royal Bahamas Police Force for their crime fighting efforts.
