Police Constable Franklyn Armbrister was found responsible for the death of Dino Brown in the Coroner’s Court on Friday. On Monday morning Commissioner of Police, Shanta Knowles revealed to reporters that consideration is being given to the use of non lethal weapons.
Knowles expressed that the latest verdict will cause officers to understand the importance of justifiable force. “For us to change our mindsets, our thinking when dealing with those people we meet in our communities so that we can have a second look and sometimes a second look will be very dangerous for an officer,” she said.
Commissioner Knowles went further stating, “there are are times when you cannot take a second look because its between your life and someone else’s life. We will not encourage officers to abuse their power but we encourage them to understand the justifiable force and harm policy, read up on it and continue to work with the Royal Bahamas Police Force as we create safer communities.”
The police commissioner also said she is looking at the use of non lethal weapons and will speak with the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe on the issue.
