Acting Press Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Keishla Adderley answered questions from members of media on the status of the contract currently held by Metro Security Solutions for the electronic monitoring of persons on bail in the country.
Adderley said, “the Ministry of National Security, specifically, has issued a show cause letter to the company responsible for the ankle monitoring system. They will have 30 days to explain and remedy the problems associated with those ankle monitoring devices so that those corrections are made the Royal Bahamas Police Force will be in contact with them and monitoring the reasoning behind the deficiencies and more importantly getting those deficiencies corrected.”
It was revealed in a recent press conference by Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander that a murder suspect demonstrated to officers how he was able to remove his ankle monitor. He also said that he had contacted Metro Solutions about it.
The Press Secretary said, “if it is proven that the company doesn’t have the capacity to ensure that those persons are monitored correctly then the consequence that must follow is another company must be put in place. An RFP will be issued and someone else will have to take over. That is not something that can be tolerated.”
The electronic monitoring contract was formally held by ICS Security Group Bahamas and Migrafill Security Group.
