Bahamas Striping Group of Companies (BSGC) is conducting roadworks on the island of Exuma.
BSGC General Manager, Melanie Roach gave an update on the project. She said, “we are 41% complete on the project with the paving. We still have to do a lot of the drainage works. We have some retaining walls to build, we have a lot of seawalls to build, but the paving work is about 41% complete.”
Roach also spoke about the challenges they have encountered while carrying out the project. ”While we were doing the fill operations in the Forest and in the Boulevard we encountered a number of caverns, some of them were like fifteen feet deep. And so of course when we find those we have to stop and fill them in before we can do back and put in the six inch base layer. So that sometimes delays the work.”
She added, “we were able to identify a lot of the flood prone areas. And so we’re in the process of completing the designs. Basically we used several methods to address it, we have drainage swales on the side of the road that will channel the water either to an open body of water or of there’s no open body of water we drain it towards a 150 foot deep well.”
The projects is expected to be completed next year.
