Coalition of Independents Leader, Lincoln Bain shared his thoughts on the Constituencies Commission Report on Thursday. The report was laid on the table in the House Of Assembly by House Speaker and Commission Chairman, Patricia Deveaux on Wednesday.
Bain expressed concern about voter amount parity among the various constituencies. He said, “for example, I have just over five thousand in Pinewood but constituencies like Central Grand Bahama has like 6,500 and East Grand Bahama has even more. So I think we can do more to get them more even but this was a step in the right direction.”
The COI Leader also warned that gerrymandering is not an effective election strategy. He said, “we don’t think that gerrymandering has ever worked in history. Every election they gerrymander but it never works and so they can do what they want but when the people have made up their mind you’re gonna see a difference.”
The COI is currently represented in Parliament by the Member for Central Grand Bahama, Iram Lewis.
