Eric Gibson Jr., proprietor of popular Bahamian restaurant Bahama Grill, appeared on The Rundown talk show this week where is refuted social media claims that people have died after eating food from his establishment.
Gibson told show host Clint Watson that the attack against his business is heinous and unconscionable. He said, “what I’ve know from operating for the last fifteen plus years is that if there’s an incident of anything the very first thing happens is I get a call to say X, Y, Z is the case. In this instance I got no call. I got no inquiries. I got nothing to say that anything was different.”
Gibson also released a press statement on Monday refuting the claims. It read, “at Bahama Grill, the health and safety of out patrons are of paramount importance. We have not received any reports or complaints of illness resulting from food consumed at our restaurant. Furthermore, there is no information supporting any fatalities linked to our food. We adhere to stringent health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of our customers.”
The restauranter explained why the beef ribs shown in a video circulating on social media are not from his restaurant. “The video showed what they said was a beef rib that came from Bahama Grill that had some crawling, I would assume they refer to it as maggots. Again, we could look at it and immediately dismiss it because we haven’t served beef ribs for over four years. Right after the pandemic, 2021, there was a shortage of beef ribs. The prices escalated beyond what I can sell it for reasonably on the menu so we discontinued carrying it.”
The Ministry of Health and Wellness also released a statement concerning the matter announcing that they have commenced an investigation into the claims.”
Gibson assured his customer that the restaurant is staying true to its mantra of providing the best food, in the cleanest environment at the best prices with the best customer service.
Police are investigating the matter.
