Staff and students at the Eight Mile Rock High School on the island of Grand Bahama mourned the death of Elvinson Saintilmar at a special assembly held on Monday. The 17 year old, who was scheduled to graduate this summer, drowned over the weekend.
Fellow graduate and friend, Adrian Stuart told ZNS News that he and Santilmar had recently finished examinations and had signed each others school shirts. He said, “the last thing we tell him was be safe. Right now, all of us still a bit shaken up. Some of us still don’t feel as if it is real because we’re still coming to terms with his death.”
The school’s Principal, Albert Jones was visibly upset about the death of Saintilmar. On Friday past before Saintilmar’s death Jones retrieved 32 students from the same beach were the drowning occurred. He said, “it hits home that perhaps something more devastating may have been averted. So I thank God for that I mentioned that to them on Friday. Just to think that we ended up losing one.”
Jones’ message to the mother of the deceased was that he was doing his job as a student, that he was respectful, not in any problems and a son to be proud of.
