The yearly service held in commemoration of emancipation was held on the Fox Hill Parade on Monday.
Governor General, Her Excellency the Most Hon. Dame Cynthia Pratt was in attendance. She told the audience Emancipation Day is a powerful reminder of the unbreakable spirit of our ancestors. “We remember Kate Moss, known to history as Poor Black Kate. A young enslaved women on Crooked Island in the 1820s whose courage in the face of cruelty became a rallying cry for abolitionists across the Atlantic.”

He told reporters on the sidelines of the event that Fox Hill is the guardian of the Emancipation Day festivities. He also said government investment in the commemoration of Emancipation Day is to ensure that the tradition doesn’t disappear.
Some of the other events held during the Fox Hill Festival were a Junkanoo Parade, climbing the greasy pole and plaiting the maypole.
