In a press event held at the Office of the Prime Minister on Tuesday, Communications Director Latrae Rahming denied wrongdoing on behalf of the government regarding a $183 million contract for roadworks in Grand Bahama.
Back in March the government released a list of contracts awarded from December 2024 to January 2025. It revealed that a company called Abaco Caribbean Holdings Limited had been awarded a $183 million contract for road works to be carried out in West Grand Bahama. After criticism from the Opposition, the Organization for Responsible Government and others the Office of the Prime Minister announced the contract was under review.
Rahming explained, “an administrative error led to the inclusion of an allocation that had been previously paused under his instructions. While the need for public works in Grand Bahama remains real and the specific matter was set aside for further review unfortunately the instruction was not reflected in the final published list. As stated in our previous statements there was no wrongdoing, no improper intent and no malfeasance.”
When asked how the error occurred Rahming said, “my understanding that this matter was intervened at the Cabinet level by the Prime Minister.”
He further stated, “there was some break down in the communication either between the decision being made at the Cabinet level and the ministry itself. But these things happen, internal communication is something that we all have to seek to improve but the right thing to do is when there is something that needs to be corrected that we publicly say that there was an error.”
