Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister, gave women of Grand Bahama a motivational talk during an International Woman’s Day gathering at the Stoned Crab Restaurant on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Mrs. Davis, patron of the event, recognised the critical role women play in national development and community leadership.
She noted that the history of women’s advancement in The Bahamas is deeply rooted in the courage and determination of the country’s early pioneers. The work of the Bahamas Suffrage Movement led by national heroines.
“In politics, we have Dame Janet Bostwick; in healthcare, we have Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis; in education, we have Dr. Keva Bethel and Dame Ivy Dumont; in sports, we have Shaunae Miller-Uibo; in aerospace engineering, we have our very first female Aisha Bowe, and I can go on and on,” she said.
She added that these women ultimately secured women’s right to vote in 1962, laying the foundation for women’s full participation in national life.
“I always say when women operate in their true strength, entire industries benefit, communities benefit and the country benefits isn’t that so? Women across the Bahamas are leading businesses, shaping policy, excelling in academia, influencing culture,” added Mrs. Davis.
Mrs. Davis also highlighted the importance of the theme: “Give to Gain,” which encourages women to support one another through mentorship, knowledge-sharing and collaboration. By uplifting others, women strengthen networks, open doors for future generations and contribute to sustainable national development.
