Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville announced on Monday that services had resumed at the public clinic on Sweeting’s Cay.
According to reports the clinic was closed due to unpaid maintenance bills. Dr. Darville told ZNS News that when he become aware of the situation he acted quickly to ensure that the clinic was reopened.
“As minister I saw the social media post of the fact that the Sweeting’s clinic, the maintenance of the yard was unkept, and it was supposedly tied in with a vendor not being paid in a timely fashion. The PHA moved quickly into action. We do apologize to the general public because it was an oversight. The minute it was brought to our attention at the PHA Nassau the vendor was paid immediately and the vendor went back to work,” he said.
The reopening of the clinic, which was scheduled for last Friday, was delayed because of bad weather. Dr. Darville said he spoke with the administrator of the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, on Monday, who assured him that the Sweeting’s Cay clinic is open and operational.
According to the minister the property where the clinic is located has been cleaned and sanitized. He also said that measures are being put in place to ensure continued maintenance and avoid service interruptions at the clinic.
