A joint law enforcement operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 188 kilos of suspected cocaine at the Freeport Container Port on Sunday. This drugs have a reported street value of $4.5 million.
At a press conference held later that day it was revealed that the drug packages, laid out on a table, were hidden in air conditioning units. Officer in Charge of Crime and Operations in the Northern Bahamas, Chief Superintendent Will Hart provided details of the bust.
He told reporters, “officers check inside of the units, inside of the units were what you see before you today strapped in the components.”
This latest drug bust is the second largest for the year. In January appropriately 498 kilos of suspected cocaine with a street value of around $10 million was also discovered at the Freeport Container Port.
No arrests have been made in connection to the find. The Chief Superintendent issued a warning to the people responsible for the drugs. Hart said, “I suggest you take up another trade because we will be relentless in catching you.”
Hart also appealed to the public to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.
