Governor General, Her Excellency the Most Hon. Cynthia Pratt along with government officials led by Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and members of the uniformed branches and others attended the annual Majority Rule church service on Wednesday. The service was held at Zion Baptist Church on Shirley Street.
President of the Bahamas Christian Council, Apostle Delton Fernander delivered remarks at the event speaking of the efforts of those who brought about Majority Rule. He said, “they did not put personal ambition before the common good of our country. They knew that the titles and the positions were not what they were after. But what they wanted to do was make a difference in their generation that when times and the history of The Bahamas was written that they would be able to be declared that they did the best that they could.’
The sermon was delivered by Senior Pastor of Zion Baptist Church, Rev. T.G. Morrison. He told congregants, “one does not have to be a social scientist to see that our country needs saving right now and unless we have the will to arrest the problem something cataclysmic is going to happen and all of us will regret it in the years to come.”
After the service, a wreath was laid at the gravesite of the late Rt. Hon. Sir Lynden Pindling by his widow, Dame Maguerite Pindling. She spoke of the sacrifices made for Majority Rule. ”I thought Lynden Pindling forgot all about my and my children because at that stage in our development I was having children then, raising a family. I was not out there in everything but I was out there in important times came along to back up for more power.”
