Over one hundred pieces of art and paintings are on display at the National Art Gallery depicting the story of Majority Rule.
Interim Executive Director of the National Art Gallery, Dr. Ian Bethell-Bennett spoke to ZNS News about the exhibit. ”The democratic franchise is fragile and so the knowledge of it and how it developed is important. And the works that we have on display here are a small part of the process towards that.”
Bethell-Bennett added, “a lot of generations really don’t talk about how the vote came about, who had the vote, who had the right to vote. So we thought that this would be a great opportunity to really start to re-engage with this discussion. The exhibition really got started in 1973 but way before 1973 and the development of the arts in The Bahamas prior to independence. So its not just 73 forward, its back as well.”
The exhibit will last for twelve months.
