The Minister of National Security is concerned about the amount of sexual assaults in the country as murders decrease by 16% compared to last year.
The Hon. Wayne Munroe shared his concerns with ZNS News. He said, “all of the major lifestyle crimes and other crimes are actually down. But they’re still too high. I hasten to say that cause to say that you have double digit murders instead of triple digit murders, to have 10 murders is a lot, to have 20 murders is a lot, to have 50 murders is a lot. But it would be less than we have now, less than we had last year, less than we had the year before.”
The Minister says that he has seen a number of reports of men being raped suggesting that more victims feel comfortable to make a report. “So the more comfortable you make it for people to come forward the less threatening they are when they come forward, the more support you give them the more likely it is an offence like a sexual offence that’s committed in private is likely to come to your attention.”
