The Free National Movement (FNM) held a press event on Sunday led by Party Leader, the Hon. Michael Pintard where it was announced that former Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis will not receive a nomination from the Party to run in the next general election.
Pintard said, “I have met with our former leader and I’ve indicated to him that we can benefit from and I’ve asked him for his support, his support in a different capacity then he has served remarkably in Killarney for a number of years. I’ve indicated to him that we can benefit from his guidance as we strategize to retake and transform this country. I’ve asked him to provide additional information that sometimes only Prime Ministers know that would allow us to defend our record as a Party. I’ve asked him to continue his line of attack on government legislation, policies and bad programs that do not assist our development. I’ve also asked him to share his views on who he believes might be a suitable replacement for him in Killarney.”
When asked about Dr. Minnis’ reaction to not receiving the Party’s nomination Pintard said Minnis told him that he would consult with his family. He also informed, “we have not heard back from him save and except through emissaries. The Party must do what we must do.”
The FNM Leader was also questioned about a suspected ongoing feud between himself and Dr. Minnis. He said, “when some may interpret as a feud is simply us saying that there’s a standard for all leaders in how they ought to operate. When you are in charge you should reasonably expect the support of those persons who are in your organization, publicly and privately. And therefore, when we call on every member of our team to have message discipline, when we call on every member of our team to be integrated in the meetings that we hold so that we can be on the same page as we present a vision for the future, those are not unrealistic expectations.”
This announcement by Pintard follows the resignation of the Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama, the Hon. Iram Lewis from the Party in the House of Assembly last week.
