While some mothers were celebrating on Mother’s Day other grieved the loss of the children. Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Wayne Thompson recently spoke with ZNS News about about the need to show empathy to mothers who have lost a child, especially to violent acts.
Dr. Thompson expressed that the loss of a child is very painful. He said, “by age 7 all children’s ways of reasoning, thinking and behaving are formed. After that only divine intervention from God can change it. We ask God to comfort those of you who would have experienced this divisive, destructive thing called violence.”
He went on to speak about the rewards of motherhood. “For those up and coming mothers please embrace this as a wonderful opportunity to create the platform to provide the future growth of our society. It is through nurturing and developing the children that our country will have a future. So entering into this thoughtfully, do not do this because others are doing it. Motherhood requires a commitment, a love that comes from the bowel of the soul and when you’re ready for it it is a joy that nothing else can compare to,” Dr. Thompson said.
