The PLP, on this power issue, believes the science and the advice of the Bahamian
professionals who have been assembled to address both the legacy and future issues facing BPL.
The comments of Desmond Bannister, Whitney Heastie, Michaela Barnett-Ellis, Shannondon Cartwright, Duane Sands, Candia Dames, and last but not least, Michael Pintard, are interesting observations, nice history lessons, and the expected outrage from the Opposition. We applaud them on those points, but we ask: how do those comments help solve our present problems?
The short answer is that they do not help. Instead, they seem designed to undercut the work of the professionals on the job and create greater anxiety among the population. Instead of urging patience, they are exacerbating the situation.
One thing is clear: every person I have listed either worked for, was part of, or supported the Hubert Minnis-led Free National Movement administration.
Isn’t it interesting that, having been divided over the general election, they have all come together over electricity blackouts? Wonders never cease.
Another thing is equally clear. Whatever happened during their time in government, and
whatever they did, it did not stop what is happening today. That is a straightforward historical fact. This is not about blaming them, but they did not fix the problem.
The maxim is clear: those who come to equity must come with clean hands. The Bible says it another way. We must confess our sins. God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.
We invite these FNM partisans to accept our sound, humbly offered advice, and then go out in peace to love and serve the people of The Bahamas.
As for BPL, let us leave that to the professionals. Let us give them an honest opportunity to fix the problem. We all appreciate how the system has underperformed. Let us encourage these professionals to get it fixed instead of undermining their efforts.
