Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander recently visited the island of Grand Bahama where he addressed the issue of uninsured and unlicensed vehicles while at a press event.
Fernander acknowledge the rise in fatalities saying that they aren’t just happening in Grand Bahamas but the other Family Islands as well.
The Commissioner said based on investigations speed is the cause of most incidents. ”I believe that we need to be more aggressive out there not only the educational part of it but a lot of road checks and to ensure that the motorists adhere to the law. A lot of them too that we found was drinking and driving that caused the accident and innocent people are being killed.”
Fernander added, “there are too many vehicles as well that is on our street that is being driven not insured and they are involved in accidents and the other parties can’t even get compensated for the damage to their vehicle or even claim.”
The Commissioner said prevention will be a big part of his policing plan in all areas.
