Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Sen. Hon. Ryan Pinder gave an update on the new court complex to be constructed while addressing the senate.
Pinder said, “I am pleased to advise that the government through it real estate holding SPV, Poinciana Holdings, has concluded the purchase of 50 and 52 Shirley Street and has been conveyed the Rodney Bain Building. Madam President, these are the facilities and properties envisioned to host to build upon the new Supreme Court Judicial Complex. This complex, Madam President, will span from Parliament Street to Charlotte Street and will be the home, as I said, of the new Supreme Court Judicial Complex. We look to proceed to demolishing the Rodney Bain Building and advancing the construction in 2024.”
The Attorney General explained how the purchases were executed a special purpose vehicle created by the government. ”So all decisions with respect to this will be handled by an independent board of directors comprising all of the regulators of the country in a representative of the Chief Justice and will be done with the utmost transparency and good governance that you would expect when you come to building something for the judiciary.”
Pinder added, “in 2024, we also look to open our new Family and Juvenile Courts that will incorporate Magistrates, Supreme Court Justices with the support of all necessary government agencies. This is our move towards creating specialty court facilities to handle certain specialty areas of the law that demand such care and treatment.”
