President of the Bahamas Christian Council, Bishop Delton Fernander has extended condolences to the Catholic community on the passing of Pope Francis, who died on Monday.
Bishop Fernander said, “I extend these condolences particularly to the denominational leader, Archbishop Patrick Pinder and all of the Bahamians of the Catholic denomination here in The Bahamas on the passing of Pope Francis.”
Fernander went further saying, “Pope Francis made history when he became the first Latin American to be elected to the papacy. He was a very humble man who used his voice to advocate for the least among us. He also highlighted issues around the world of great consequence to humanity.”
In his statement the Christian Council President noted the late Pontiff’s final address which he delivered in Easter Sunday. He said, “the Pope spoke about love. The same love the unites Christians around the world no matter their various denominations or traditions. He spoke from the heart and he bless an entire world. Pope Francis was an example of servant leadership being an man who ascended to the highest post within the Catholic church. It is a lesson to all leaders around the world that we should seek to remain humble although exulted to high leadership.”
Pope Francis was 88 years old when he passed away.
