The Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell announced the Sustainable Food Grant, a $40,000 grant for businesses in the agriculture and fisheries industry at press event held on Monday.
Campbell told reporters, “in recent years, we have witnessed the fluctuation in the availability and price of staple items in our national diet. The occurrence of food scarcity and the unaffordable cost to some causes Bahamians to have to make tough decisions pertaining to what to eat, how much to eat and in some instances whether they eat at all. International circumstances such as the pandemic, war, inflation and supply chain issues have adversely affected food availability not in The Bahamas but globally. It has also placed a spotlight on the need for more attention to be paid to agriculture, fishing and food production which are vital sectors of our economy.”
The grant offer in a partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Access Accelerator Small Business Development Center, the Bahamas Agriculture and Industrial Corporation (BAIC) and the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI).
