Member of Parliament for South and Central Abaco, the Hon. John Pinder announced on Wednesday that he will not seek re-election in 2026 general election.
Pinder told ZNS News it was never his intent to become a career politician. He said in 2021 when he ran for the seat his priority was helping the island rebuild post Hurricane Dorian and ensuring the world know that Abaco was open for business.
“Abaco had been left on its own and nothing was moving even to the point where the former Ministry of Tourism had wiped us off the map. Literally the tourism map that was being circulated around the world has us shaded off the map,” Pinder said.
The South and Central MP also shared some of improvements made on the island while he has been in office. “We have the most direct flights into the United States a part from Nassau. We are only second to Nassau for stopover visitors. Our economy is steadily growing. Entrepreneurs are opening up businesses on a regular basis and you can see that we are back on the right path.”
Pinder said that he remains committed to supporting the people of Abaco and will continue to serve until the end of his term.
