The Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for the Northern Bahamas, Shanta Knowles and other stakeholders conducted a walkabout in the Sunset Subdivision recently.
ACP Knowles explained the reason for the walkabout. She said, “one of the Commissioner’s policing policies speaks to community engagement. Since I’ve been here on Grand Bahama that is something I’ve been stressing with my officers that we go out in the community and engage the people.”
Urban Renewal officials also took part in the door to door exercise. ACP Knowles said, “as we’ve been walking I’m pleased to hear residents talk about the police presence in the area. Some saying more police presence is needed others says I’ve been seeing the police and I’m please with the work that the police are doing in the community and in this community. Those who want to see the police more will certainly see more of the police in this community and in other communities here in Grand Bahama.”
For her part Minister Moxey said, “in terms of presence they sometimes felt that there can be a bit more. In other cases everyone feels that its fine but there are other concerns, concerns like streetlighting that will be addressed, others brought up speed bumps and that will be addressed as well. And so I just wanted to be a part of it to ensure that their concerns are being heard and is being addressed.”
ACP Knowles said she recently conducted walkabouts in McLean’s Town and Sweeting’s Cay and hopes West End will be the next location.
