Committee members of the ‘Governor General’s Volunteer Bahamas’ initiative paid an informative courtesy call on the Hon. Philip Davis, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. The visit, September 7, 2022 at the Office of the Prime Minister, was to update Prime Minister Davis on the group’s recent initiatives.
The Right Hon. Algernon S.B.P. Allen, Chairman of the group’s Advisory Committee, read to the Prime Minister the Governor General’s Volunteer Bahamas Bill which is now ready for Parliamentary consideration.
Volunteer Bahamas is coordinating a database of existing registered non-Government Organisations (NGO’s) and their individual specialty aid areas. The programme will serve to support and enhance the efforts of existing certified NGOs, and other volunteer and philanthropic organizations throughout The Bahamas and promote, with volunteerism outreach initiatives, further community engagement.
Volunteer Bahamas will promote and work toward empowering individuals and groups new to volunteerism to further develop the social attributes of their communities. It will seek to remove the absence of knowledge that exists on how to go about becoming a volunteer. It will serve as a matchmaker in connecting aspiring volunteers with their preferred community or event that needs volunteer assistance.
