Thousands of Bahamians are set to cast their votes early. These include senior citizens, specials voters, members of the uniformed branches, students abroad and pregnant women. Four hundred voters are expected at the 13 overseas missions and 17 polling stations on New Providence and Grand Bahama.
Parliamentary Commissioner, Harrison Thompson spoke with ZNS News about preparation for the advanced poll set to take place on Thursday, April 30th. He said, “on election day the would be opened just before the polls start for the general public. Once the Presiding Officer empty his or her box on that day. The sealed envelope with the advanced poll in it they would deposit those in the box without counting them because everything is on the envelope itself and then the box is sealed and they start the process for the general election.”
Representative of the Organization of American States, the Commonwealth Secretariat and CARICOM Secretariat as well as teams from the United Kingdom and United States are set to observe the upcoming general election.
Thompson assured that his office will ensure a clean election. He said, “we want to make sure that everyone, no matter who you might be, once you qualify, you have the right to vote for the candidate of your choice. Contrary to what might be said outside our job is to prepare the country for election and we will ensure that all the procedures are in place to ensure that you don’t have any challenges as much as possible.”
The Parliamentary Commissioner also informed that more biometric voters card are really for collection at various sites in New Providence and Grand Bahama.
