The Obadiah H. Wilchcombe Government Complex was teeming with energy and community spirit this past Saturday, May 24, 2025, as residents gathered for the 2nd Annual Health & Wellness Fair hosted by the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) in collaboration with key health partners.
Under a spacious tent, residents of all ages took part in a wide range of free health services, from glucose and blood pressure screenings to eye exams and mental health consultations. The event also offered measles vaccinations, spa demonstrations, and a vital blood drive —underscoring the fair’s holistic approach to wellness.
Affectionately referred to as the “precious pearls” of the community, the island’s senior citizens were among the most active participants, eager to take advantage of the services offered.
The day’s activities were officially declared open by the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey, who emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare and community engagement.
Also in attendance was the Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, Kingsley Smith, who praised the collaboration between government entities and private partners in bringing healthcare directly to the people.
Free transportation was provided across the island to ensure access for all.
The URA and its partners continue to prioritize public health and wellness, reminding residents that prevention and education are key to building a stronger, healthier Bahamas.
In attendance to show their support and deliver remarks were the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey; Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama and Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, Kingsley Smith; Senator Kirk Russell, Deputy Director and Officer-in-Charge of Urban Renewal and Dr. Monique Pratt. Each offered words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of community-based healthcare and the collective effort to improve the well-being of residents across Grand Bahama.
