Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville recently announced that the government has acquired 15 new ambulances to strengthen emergency response at the Princess Margaret Hospital in New Providence and the Rand Memorial Hospital in Grand Bahama.
Dr. Darville provided an update on ambulance services in the family islands. Last year, Long Island resident, Brenda Wells had to be transported on the back of a truck in the rain to seek medical care due to the absence of an ambulance. According to the minister an ambulance and a qualified Emergency Medical Technician has been deployed to the island.
Dr. Darville told reporters, “we have some other family islands that we are working on. We had some ENT graduates from the PHA Academy but you know there’s a certain amount of hours that they need to have under their belt before they can take the national exam. And once they are certified then they meet the medical legal requirement.”
