Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe addressed the status of the contract currently held by Metro Security Solutions for the electronic monitoring of persons on bail.
Munroe spoke with reporters responding to comments made by former Prime Minister and the Member of Parliament for Killarney, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis who questioned the ability of Metro Security Solutions to fulfill the contract. He said, “unless Dr. Minnis was lost in space or not paying attention he would have had to sign off on the award of the contract. The company was actually the major shareholder is a former police officer. Based on my thirty years experience, he’s an ardent FNM. And I don’t know that that was the cause for the award of the contract, person’s political persuasions don’t move me but it is really dishonest for somebody who awarded a contract to someone to say that that they don’t know who the owners are.”
The Minister also said that there have been complaints about every service provider for ankle monitoring. “In every instance the complaints are drawn to the attention of the provider and they’re given a time to make good on any complaint and deficiencies. As I say that’s a matter where the police wrote to them. I would expect that they would respond to the police and if they do not satisfy the police then I would expect that the police will have recourse to the ministry.”
Acting Press Secretary, Keishla Adderley told reporter at a press briefing last week that the Minister of National Security has issued a show cause letter to Metro Security Solutions. She said that company would have thirty days to explain and remedy issues with the ankle monitoring systems and devices.
