Director of Aviation, Dr. Kenneth Romer recently revealed an increase in airlift to the northern islands in the country.
During an interview with ZNS News Dr. Romer said, “Grand Bahama, year over year, has exceeded all prior years when it comes foreign air arrivals. Bimini, it was a bit sluggish in Bimini after Silver, that’s the mean legacy carrier puled out the market. But like I said in 2026 we’re looking at for the first of American Airline. And when it comes to Great Harbour Cay, I’m very please that Bahamasair for the first time had their inaugural service in October into Bimini through a partnership with Royal Caribbean Airline.”
The aviation director also spoke of the economic benefits of increased airlift. “We now need to to creatively look at cruise conversion. How do we take those who experience the beauty of Grand Bahama through cruising and convert them now into longtime stays, to stopover arrivals. And they are the ones that are really going to be able to go into hotels, go into your restaurants, they’re gonna rent cars.”
Romer shared that plans are in the works to further expand airlift with routes into Atlanta and night flights.
