The Free National Movement (FNM) ratified Frazette Gibson, this week, to be its standard bearer for the Central Grand Bahama constituency in the next general election. She is set to compete against incumbent Member of Parliament, Iram Lewis of the Coalition Of Independents (COI). The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has yet to name a candidate for the seat.
During the ratification meeting held at FNM headquarters in New Providence Gibson told supporters she embraces the responsibility of the candidacy with a whole heart. She said, “Central, this journey is bigger than any one person. It is about our shared struggles from our young people with big dreams to our elders whose wisdom guides us, every voice matters. We belong together Central Grand Bahama.”
Iram Lewis won the seat for a second time in 2021 as a member of the FNM. He resigned from the FNM to join the COI in April of this year. Lewis told ZNS News his priority remains of the people.
“My focus remain where it has always been that is on empowering the people of Central Grand Bahama. I’m no longer part of that party and I’m reminded of the Apostle Paul when he wrote forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are before I press towards the mark. And as an Olympian I learned that you don’t win a race by looking sideways. I’m running in my lane. I’m running for the people and come 2026 we will cross that line victoriously, no doubt about it.” Lewis said.
The PLP is expected to ratify more candidates for the general election on December 18th. National Chairman, the Hon. Fred Mitchell recently told members of media the ratification process should be done by the end of January. He said, “in the meantime all Members of Parliament are still busy in their job and doing their work.”
Mitchell said the Prime Minister expect to complete the candidate selection process complete in January.
