Sylvia Jones was a special woman. Her love knew no boundaries. The love she showered on her family, the loyalty she gave to her friends, and the commitment she showed to her work and community are legendary.
Although she passed away over a year ago, those who knew and loved her are forever touched by a woman who changed their lives for the better. Sylvia and her husband Ephraim Jones, proprietor of the Garden of Eden Restaurant in Eastwood, built a life that was an example for many.
The Jones had a strong marriage built on trust and respect. The love they had was one that never faded, and was an example for all who knew them, of how to love whole-heartedly.
A quintessential Bahamian woman, Sylvia was known to cook large spreads of food for family and friends for special occasions – by herself. She raised her daughter and sons with the kind of motherly love that was unmatched.
When Sylvia fell ill, it was devastating for the Jones family, but it did not spell the end. Sylvia fought bravely against cancer and for many years, she survived. During the rough times, her loving husband Ephraim cared for her as her nurse, her comforter, her cook, her maid and her lover.
This selfless act was admired by many. Ephraim’s sons would lift their mother like a baby, and assist their father in tending to their mother during the tough times.
Although she has since passed on, the memories that the Minns, her birth family, and the Jones, the family she created, are stronger than ever. Her essence is felt in every aspect of their lives, because her light was such a bright beacon for others. She taught others how to live and love fully.
In honor of her memory, Ephraim authored a book entitled: “Loving My Wife in Sickness & In Health”. Ephraim stayed true to the vow he made to the love of his life on their wedding day.
In a world where love and respect appear to be devalued, Ephraim hopes that he and his wife’s love story can inspire others to believe in love, and to create successful lives of their own.
He will launch the book this Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Garden of Eden, Eastwood.
