When Lashan Hart was expecting her second child, she took her six- year-old daughter for hair care. Disappointed that they ignored her request to turn off violent adult content on a TV accessible to clients, she ignited a fire within her. The experience inspired her to step out of her comfort zone and create her own kid-friendly salon. Even
though she had a child on the way then, Lashan was determined to use her work experience and determination to begin her entrepreneurial journey.
Today, her Young Cuts Salon, located on Wulff Road opposite Windsor Park, is a thriving family-oriented space that provides high-quality haircare services for children and adults.
While children are the top priority, the salon caters to the entire family. “Starting my business was about following my passion and love for kids. Creating an environment from a vision in my head and seeing it come to life has been incredible. I feel like I’ve answered many parents’ prayers, and we have made a real difference in our community — one day at a time,” said Lashan.
Young Cuts Salon offers hair and grooming services, such as braiding, washing, natural hair care, pedicures, manicures, a nail room, and barber services — making it a one-stop shop. They are also proud to cater to special-needs children, ensuring they receive the extra time and care they deserve.
Giving back to the community is dear to her heart. Recently, Lashan offered gift certificates and prizes to The Boys and Girls Club of The Bahamas to be used for the students participating in the Ministry of Tourism, Investment and Aviation’s (MOTIA) Bahamas Host Junior Program. Samantha Cartwright, manager of the school unit in the training department of the MOTIA, has been working with the Boys and Girls Club for around eighteen years and said that the tourism industry is a great career for them.
President of the Boy and Girls Club, Rev. Sam Rolle, shares, “Mrs. Hart’s generous donation demonstrates the power of community support in empowering our youth. We are grateful for her contribution, which will directly reward two Bahamas Host Junior Program participants. We are really proud of the partnerships.”
Young Cuts Salon opened nine months ago and aims to be a “cut” above the rest. One of handful of salons in New Providence catering to kids, it is confident of earning a top spot in the industry one day. Follow it on social media to stay updated on services and promotions.
