Leader of the Coalition Of Independents (COI), Lincoln Bain protested the nomination of the Progressive Liberal Party’s candidate for Fort Charlotte, Sebastian Bastian on Thursday. Bain cited that Bastian did not disclose his interest in government contracts as prescribed by law.
According to Bain, Bastian said that he has government contracts on a local radio talk show on Wednesday. He said all disclosures by a candidate must be gazetted within a month before seeking official nomination.
The COI Leader intends to take the issue to Election Court. Bain told reporters. “he doesn’t want you to know exactly what he have. So he wants to override that process by letting them still nominate him anyway. Because the trick is going to be that they’re gonna say that the Returning Officer’s decision is final.”
Progressive Liberal Party spokesperson, Latrae Rahming responded to the issue. He said, “the campaign is satisfied that Mr. Bastian meets all the requirements. He is nominated. We expect him to be on the ballot on May 12th and there’s no concerns with his declarations.”
