Officials of the Free National Movement (FNM) were in South Andros this week where a meeting was held to choose a candidate for that constituency as the Party continues to fill its slate for the 2026 general election.
According to FNM Chairman, Dr. Duane Sands one person that definitely will not be a standard bearer for the party is former NBA player, Rick Fox. There has been speculation that FNM Leader, Michael Pintard was considering Fox to contest the new St. James constituency.
Dr. Sands said, “that is not so, full stop, end of story. We believe that the mix of candidates is vibrant. They all share one common approach and that is that they have a history of service to the Bahamian people and that will all go well in any future administration should we have the confidence of the Bahamian people and win the next general elections.”
The FNM has ratified 28 candidates thus far. According to Dr. Sands once all the candidates are named the FNM will have the most women ever ratified.
When asked about the candidate choice for South Andros Dr. Sands said, “it is a process of completing the roll out or ratification of candidates across the country. We haven’t ratified somebody for Centreville. We haven’t ratified anybody for Nassau Village. We haven’t ratified somebody for Long Island yet. We have to complete the process.”
