Former Royal Bahamas Defence Force Chief Petty Officer Darrin Roker, 56, was sentenced to forty eight months in a US prison after pleading guilty to drug related charges.
Roker recently announced that he is terminally ill. His attorneys asked the court for leniency which would allow him to spend his final days here at home.
Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe was asked for comment outside of the House Of Assembly on Wednesday. He said, “just as what’s happening to, I think he is a Chief, Roker, in the US. If you fall afoul of the law you will be called to account. And what I would like to stress is what we see in this country is that you’re being called to account by the Royal Bahamas Police Force. They investigate and if they find a matter they put you before the court.”
The minister also addressed the issue of law enforcement officers breaking the law. Munroe said, the public should, when they see the police arresting their own, arresting other law enforcement officers, they should be encouraged that the system is applying to everybody.”
The other Bahamians accused alongside Roker are still awaiting trial.
