Governor General extends State of Emergency

His Excellency the Most Hon. Cornelius Smith signed a Proclamation of Emergency dated May 14th per article 29 of the constitution declaring that a State of Emergency exists in The Bahamas.

The gazetted proclamation stipulates that despite the fact that a national vaccination distribution program is in progress, with a comparatively low percentage of fully vaccinated persons in The Bahamas, and a third wave of infections on New Providence and Grand Bahama that continues to cause illness and death.

The proclamation also states that the senate of the Bahamas has adjourned sine die and is not due to meet within five days of the proclamation of emergency.

The proclamation then summoned the senate to meet on Tuesday May 18th at 10am.
