Sunday was observed as a national day of prayer ahead of the 52nd Independence. Rector at St. Agnes Anglican Church, Archdeacon Keith Cartwright spoke with ZNS News about the role of faith over the years in The Bahamas.
He said, “this nation has been a nation of prayer worriers and that has kept us, that has kept us together and I encourage those who are not prayer persons to try it. And I think that we need not just to keep church, worship services, but we have to go back to the new testament style church where we go. Jesus gave us a command to go into all the world but a lot of us are just staying in the church and we’re not going into the houses, the homes of our people.”
Archdeacon Cartwright also commented on whether or not the church has done enough to address issues of violence, moral disconnection and economics saying we need to get back to the basics of putting God first. “God first, home and family second and country third but God first, you have to take care of the home and today we are not having that and that’s where we are falling down. Let us always remember the most important teaching of Jesus to love. Love will conquer all and if we treat one another as you would like them to treat us we’ll have a better Bahamas.”
Cartwright wished every Bahamian, guests and those helping to build our country happy independence.
