CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is vitally important for families, and what better time to learn this important skill than during Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, according to Member of Parliament for Marathon Lisa T. Rahming.
She wanted her constituents to be able to save the lives of their loved ones and others in emergency situations. CPR can significantly improve the chances of survival during a cardiac emergency, preventing brain damage and saving lives.
“Knowing how to perform CPR will empower Marathon residents to be able to assist a loved one until professional help arrives, especially in the critical minutes following incidents like a heart attack,” Rahming said.
The CPR classes were a part of a wider Health Fair hosted by MP Rahming in conjunction with Doctors Hospital EMS Department at the Mall at Marathon.
Not only Marathon residents participated. Participants were treated to free health services including pressure, glucose check, HIV testing, and the option to donate blood. The blood bank, she said, indicated that it was the largest amount of blood they received at one event in recent times, and thanked the Marathon team for rallying residents to donate during EMS Week.
MP Rahming also treated participants to free souse for breakfast and a complimentary bag filled with gift packets, as well as fruit and vegetables.
All who participated in the CPR training received certificates of participation and gained a lifelong skill and new knowledge on health and life saving measures.
