The Oceania Insignia ship made its first trip to Grand Bahama over the weekend. The crew was met by officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini and the Freeport Harbour Company.
Deputy Port Director Ellison Charles Rolle presented the ship’s crew with a plaque. He said, “every time we see a ship come through the buoys that represents an exciting time. Whether its a beautiful ship like this or its one of the larger ones they all represent a very important milestone for us.
The Hon. Kingsley Smith represented the government at the exchange of plagues event. He told reporters, “its important that we continue to market The Bahamas as a destination of choice and what we see today is a continuance the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry for Grand Bahama ensuring that we do market Grand Bahama and to get those guests as much as we can.”
Smith added, “the whole idea is to make the pitch to put our best foot forward so they can see the product that we have and that its something that they can offer to their guests. And have this port, a port that they come to often.”
The ship left The Bahamas headed for Miami, Florida on Saturday.
